Framingham beach assault trial postponed

FRAMINGHAM - Members of the Massachusetts Environmental Police were out in force yesterday at Framingham District Court, gathering outside while two men inside were awaiting trial for several charges, including threatening to kill one of the officers.
The trial for Arlen Atakhanov, 40, of Newton, and Sergey Postoronka, 34, of Everett, was postponed until June 4.
Environmental police Lt. Joe Pajak said he and the other half-dozen or so officers were there to provide security because Atakhanov had threatened the officer who arrested him on July 16 at Cochituate State Park in Natick.
"They made a threat, and we deemed it to be credible," said Pajak.
"They're foreign nationals and they're credible threats. We're just here to provide some extra security."
Atakhanov and Postoronka were arrested at the state park when police said they caught the men drinking on July 16. During the confrontation, both men hit and shoved the officers, who had to use their batons, according to court records.
At one point, officers used pepper spray on Atakhanov, who was taken to MetroWest Medical Center's Leonard Morse campus for treatment.
It was there where he allegedly told an officer twice he would kill him, according to court records.
Atakhanov and Postoronka are charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and illegal possession of alcohol at a state park.
Atakhanov is also charged with threatening to commit a crime.
The trial is being held at Framingham District Court because Natick District Court does not hold jury trials.
